Kibabii University Innovation Challenge 2020 is an initiative of Kibabii University as part of European Union Funded African Higher Education Leadership in Advancing Inclusive Innovation for Development (AHEAD) Project to activate a series of innovative solutions for various community challenges. The Challenge brought together students that care about building innovative solutions for sustainability.
Joshua Odhiambo Owiti, a third year student of Renewable Energy in the Department of Science, Technology and Engineering (STE) was selected as one of the winners of the 2020 innovation challenge at Kibabii University. In an event held on October 22, a professional and impartial team of judges identified Joshua’s innovativeness in his project entitled “Production of Charcoal Briquettes from waste” and ranked it high among equally deserving and good projects from students. Asked on the meritocracy of the judgment, one of the judges who spoke on condition of anonymity described Joshua’s work as a milestone for sustainable environmental management and clean energy technology. Mentored by Dr. Peter Khakina and Mr. Kennedy Munyole who are academic staff members in the department; Mr. Joshua has grown into an innovative young man with a promising future. Dr. John Wanjala Makokha (COD) reiterated the department’s commitment to efficient mentorship in tandem with the university wide development goals.
